Towns of South-East Spain - Costa Blanca South
Pilar de La Horadada
Pilar
de La Horadada is on the border of Alicante and Murcia regions
and one of 27 villages in the Vega Baja not far from the Rio
Seco (Dry River). This lovely village has a nickname –
The Drilled One because it has a Watchtower with a hollow
middle.
The local economy is based on tourism and the farming of
broccoli, celery and lettuces. You will see beautiful chrysanthemums,
gladioli and roses being grown and flourishing in this idyllic
climate.
The town has a great parade of shops and some first class
restaurants. In particular there are a couple of excellent
shoe shops and a tourist office with really helpful staff.
Pilar has a reputation for putting on some of the best fiesta
in the area, something the Pilar people are very proud of.
The nearest beach is at Mil Palmeras (1,000 palms) –
fantastically soft sand and crystal clear water. There are
excellent facilities on the beach including wheelchair friendly
access down to the water.
There is a fantastic football academy at Pilar - Charlton
Athletic European Soccer School was launched by Addicks first-team
manager Alan Curbishley in May 2004 and runs courses for children
between 6 and 16.
If you have a budding footballer in the family you might
want to contact
the academy.

There are some great properties to be found near the academy
in Pilar de la Horadada both in the town and down by the coast
of Mil Palmeras – it’s a very Spanish area with
some excellent schools locally.
