La Mata

One of the main features of La Mata has to be the beach – it’s spectacular – a great place for holidays and long weekends if you can’t be there all the time.

If you are dependent on buses then La Mata is a good place to be as there are frequent buses including routes to Alicante airport

The town has a very street market every Wednesday morning and there are some really good bars and restaurants in La Mata - Alexis, Dubliner and Jandels on the sea front, Rumours and Ulpiano are all worth a visit during the day or at night and BarloVento is good for seafood meals.

Fiesta time is party time in La Mata and there are fiestas throughout the year here but the most notable one is in May when the “casetas” are put up around the harbour and horses are paraded around the town. The Association of the Virgen del Rocío organizes a "Romería" (Pilgrimage) in Honour of the Virgen del Rocío on the last Saturday and Sunday of May, with a pilgrims' mass held in the open air – not to be missed!

La Mata has everything for an action packed trip – you can visit 'Ozone Centro de Ocio" for bowling, arcade games, cinema and clubs. Try out the horse riding around the salt lakes or maybe go-karting in Playa Flamenca or the water park at Torrivieja just 7 minutes drive south. If you want something a bit less adventurous there is the Safari park at Elche…….or of course you could just sit by the pool, lie on the beach and soak up the rays!

But it’s not all action in La Mata – there are plenty of very peaceful places tucked away and a really pleasant community atmosphere around the whole area. Even now we are still amazed at the prices of some of the property in La Mata – it has so much going for it and yet you can find nice properties for around €100,000 (sometimes!).
